A bill of sale is strongly recommended even where not legally required. It documents the purchase price for any applicable taxes, establishes the transaction date, and protects both parties. Always get one when buying or selling a trailer in Pennsylvania.
How long does it take to get a title in Pennsylvania?
Standard title applications in Pennsylvania are processed at the PennDOT Tag Office. Registration and plates are typically issued same-day at the office window. The physical title certificate is mailed to you within 2–6 weeks depending on state processing times.
Can I register an out-of-state trailer in Pennsylvania?
Yes. Bring the out-of-state title signed over to you, your Pennsylvania ID, the completed MV-1 application, and fee payment to your PennDOT Tag Office. They will issue a Pennsylvania title in your name. This is a standard process and does not require a bonded title.
