Does Michigan require a bill of sale for trailer transfers?
A bill of sale is strongly recommended even where not legally required. It documents the purchase price for any applicable taxes, establishes the transaction date, and protects both parties. Always get one when buying or selling a trailer in Michigan.
How long does it take to get a title in Michigan?
Standard title applications in Michigan are processed at the Secretary of State Office. Registration and plates are typically issued same-day at the office window. The physical title certificate is mailed to you within 2–6 weeks depending on state processing times.
Can I register an out-of-state trailer in Michigan?
Yes. Bring the out-of-state title signed over to you, your Michigan ID, the completed TR-11L application, and fee payment to your Secretary of State Office. They will issue a Michigan title in your name. This is a standard process and does not require a bonded title.
