Does Indiana require a bill of sale for trailer transfers?
A bill of sale is strongly recommended even where not legally required. It documents the purchase price for any applicable taxes, establishes the transaction date, and protects both parties. Always get one when buying or selling a trailer in Indiana.
How long does it take to get a title in Indiana?
Standard title applications in Indiana are processed at the BMV Branch Office. Registration and plates are typically issued same-day at the office window. The physical title certificate is mailed to you within 2–6 weeks depending on state processing times.
Can I register an out-of-state trailer in Indiana?
Yes. Bring the out-of-state title signed over to you, your Indiana ID, the completed State Form 205 application, and fee payment to your BMV Branch Office. They will issue a Indiana title in your name. This is a standard process and does not require a bonded title.
